News > WWE Snuffs Canada, Once Again

July 3, 2007

It seems that Canadian wrestlers and/or wrestling fans just can't catch a break: first, Owen Hart dies in a freak harness accident, leading to the cancellation of all Canadian WWE events for an entire year, and now following Chris Benoit's decision to powerbomb his family to death, WWE has again cancelled all Canadian WWE events for the next month.

TMZ reports that though the cancellation ostensibly came about "to show sensitivity to the fans of Chris "Rabid Wolverine" Benoit," Canada and the WWE haven't exactly been on friendly terms. Canadian wrestling fans still blame Vince MacMahon and the WWE team for the death of Owen Hart, to the point where they chanted "You killed Owen" once WWE came back to Canada -- it's understandable that WWE wouldn't want to be loudly and publicly blamed for Chris Benoit going apeshit insane.
