Writer-actor-director Jason Winer has been signed for a year to create and/or direct projects for Fox. The multi-hyphenate is known for his off-beat, semi-improvised, low-budget comedies such as The Adventures of Big Handsome Guy and His Little Friend and Giants of Radio, neither of which made it to air, but both established him as a rising talent. The studios were impressed with his ability to create quality shows on shoestring budgets. "The goal style-wise is to capture that magic and freshness," Winer told . "You're seeing it in Judd Apatow's stuff, in Adam McKay's stuff. Suffice to say, I have an idea I'm excited to make, and will possibly shoot it in November."

Winer's an alumnus of Chicago's Improv Olympic theater, so theoretically he knows what he's doing when it comes to improv and hopefully he has the kind of connections (IO has a hell of a track record in terms of alumni) that could turn into a great comedy cast. Until he gets a show together, he's already on board to direct episodes of new shows Miss/Guided, Carpoolers and Samantha Who? in the fall.
