News > Ryan Seacrest to Host Emmys

August 21, 2007

With no viable comedians under their umbrella, Fox had no choice but to select American Idol host Ryan Seacrest as the host of the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. To give the man credit, he has hosted the #1 program for the past five or six years, so emceeing is something he can handle. But the fact that he's not funny will noticeably hurt the show, and people can be brutal to hosts if they're not up to snuff. Fox might want to look into getting some actual comedians on its network. If they hadn't canceled Arrested Development, maybe they could have gotten one of the Bluths to host. David Cross might be too cranky and subversive to do it, but can you imagine how great either he or Will Arnett would be?
