Lou Diamond Phillips will play the police chief in the new NBC drama Backyards and Bullets. According to , the show focuses on a suburban Neighborhood Watch Group that "goes awry." Does this mean they turn the town into a police state or give in to wanton acts of vigilante justice or something? Sounds interesting. The cast includes Billy Burke (24), Richard Ruccolo (Two Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place), Matthew St. Patrick (Six Feet Under), and Kristin Lehman (Drive). Not exactly all-stars, but then again, most good shows don't start out with well-known ensembles, they end up with them. Charles McDougall (The Office, Desperate Housewives) is directing the pilot.
