News > Jay Mohr Gets on Board with Fox Sports

August 6, 2007

Written by David Morgan

Comedian Jay Mohr has been hired by Fox Sports to host The Alternative with Jay Mohr, in an attempt to add a more entertaining element to their usual straightforward sports analysis. says this is being called "sportstainment" which sounds a little gross, possibly because the word "stain" is in the middle. Mohr will write a weekly column for FoxSports.com and submit twenty minutes of video segments each week made up of monologues, remote reports, and sketch comedy relevant to that week's headlines.

Mohr's past sports experience includes being a regular substitute for Jim Rome on his Sirius Satellite Radio program and has contributed to Fox Sports Net's NFL Sunday Morning and The Best Damn Sports Show Period

This should be a good fit for Mohr. When I started reading about this story I thought to myself "well there's someone who could replace Conan when he moves to the Tonight Show that no one's been talking about." But I think a sports show, is more his style. He's got that natural arrogance thing going on, which is better suited for a sports show than a standard variety show.
