News > Isaiah Washington Is Not Homophobic

Or at least that's what his P.R. people would like you to believe. The Grey's Anatomy star aired an ABC-funded public service announcement tonight, urging viewers to exhibit tolerance and love for their fellow citizens. You can't knock the message, but you can certainly question the man's intentions -- and question them we will. Washington has been under fire for allegedly referring to co-star T.R. Knight as a "F-word". Washington later denied using the term by saying, verbatim, "No, I did not call T.R. a F$%^^%. It never happened." Hmmm. Knight, who is gay, then publicly confirmed that the incident had, in fact, taken place. Washington later acknowledged the incident, pledging to get help to rectify the deeply rooted prejudices. Change is good, but this all smacks of a good-faith marketing push to try and salvage the actor's career. Whether or not it will be enough is anyone's guess, but the reality is that a simple apology cannot, in any way, compensate for the man's offensive and ignorant actions.
