As successful as this year's American Idol finale was, it didn't hold a candle to last years season-ending bash. This year's show garnered 29.5 million viewers. Sounds like a ton, right? It is, until you compare it to 2006's American Idol season finale, which garnered more than 7 million additional viewers. Yowza. The diminishing level of interest could be due to a number of different factors, but the crap-tastic field of Idol contestants this year is most likely the prime suspect. Jordin Sparks, Blake Lewis, Sanjaya "tone-deaf guy in my basement" Malakar were all members of what seemed to amount to the worst collection of would-be rock stars yet. Here's to hoping that 2008 is a bit more, umm, pleasant.
