News > YouTube Resumes Are Cooler Than Paper Ones, TV Execs Say

LA Times reports the story of David McMillan, a 28-year-old Angeleno hoping to make it as a TV staff writer.

After looking at a veritable sea of scripts and paper resumes, McMillan decided to try something different -- a David Letterman-style Top Ten list of reasons why he'd make a great staff writer. He uploaded his video to YouTube, and sent it to every industry contact he could think of.

Granted, he hasn't exactly been hired anywhere yet, but it's nonetheless good to know that a guy imaginative enough to put "I have a relatively good bone structure" and "my father has a cool name" on his resume can get more exposure from news pieces like those in the LA Times.

More advice for wannabe-writers: if you're gonna sell yourself, it doesn't hurt to do it in a wholly unorthodox way.
