Selma Blair (Hellboy, Cruel Intentions) has signed on to play Kim in NBC's upcoming pilot Kath and Kim, opposite Molly Shannon. According to ,

Based on the hit Australian series "Kath & Kim," the NBC comedy focuses on the dysfunctional relationship between Kath (Shannon) and her daughter Kim (Blair).

Hmm. Kind of unusual casting choices seeing as Shannon is just under eight years older than Blair, and it's not like either one of them looks exceptionally young or old either. They both look about 43 and 35, respectively (though Blair might be able to pass for late 20s). THR goes on to say:

Casting the title characters has been considered crucial to the success of the show. When the project was first picked up to pilot by NBC in January 2007, it was pushed to summer because of difficulties casting the leads.

So supposedly this wasn't a hasty decision, just a bad one?

Michelle Nader wrote the most recent version of the script for the pilot and is executive producing with original series creators Gina Riley and Jane Turner as well as Rick McKenna.
