Reality TV > Who's Up Next for On The Lot?

Steven Spielberg is a powerful person.  And nowhere is that power greater shown then in the continued presence of 'On The Lot' on primetime television.  The show has massive potential, but the one and only episode I saw was a boring, stiff mess, hosted by vacant pretty face with a fine rack.  Yet, since my unwritten prediction weeks ago that the show would crash and burn spectacularly, it has done just the opposite - continuously drawing big name directors to judge the group of across-the-board obnoxious filmmakers.  Last week it was Scorcese, and now they've announced Eli Roth and Mean Girls director Mark Waters as the next two guest judges.  I was more excited about Mark Waters when I thought he directed Mean Creek, but nonetheless, Mean Girls isn't anything to scoff at.

Seriously though, this show has to be riding the coattails of Steven Spielberg, unless since I watched it three weeks ago there's been some sort of drastic change in the pace to make it more interesting.  Or, maybe it's latched on to reality show's saving grace - stupid people.  Stupid people, and I've been guilty of this in the past, will watch the show once, not be particularly entertained but come back for a second helping because they're bored or stupid, and after that you're halfway locked in to the characters.  Even if the show is absolutely 'tarded, you're still interested in seeing what particular characters are doing or saying or screwing.  That's what I blame for my month long obsession with 'Beauty and the Geek', well, that and the sea of fine, fine women paraded across the screen each week.  It's the boon of the reality show era - why make interesting concepts when you can just stock a stupid one with interesting characters?

Thus, the reality show era continues to delude television.  Shit, I don't even have cable anymore.
