News > Washington Blames Racism for Firing

Isaiah Washington is at it yet again. He's once again caught the culprit, the reason he was fired from Grey's Anatomy. And it's racism. quotes him as follows:
My mistake was believing that I would get the support from my network and all of my cast mates across the board. My mistake was believing I could correct a wrong with honesty and sincerity. My mistake was thinking black people get second chances. I was wrong on all fronts. Well, it didn't help me on the set that I was a black man who wasn't a mush-mouth Negro walking around with his head in his hands all the time. I didn't speak like I'd just left the plantation and that can be a problem for people sometime. I had a person in human resources tell me after this thing played out that 'some people' were afraid of me around the studio. I asked her why, because I'm a 6-foot-1, black man with dark skin and who doesn't go around saying 'Yessah, massa sir' and 'No sir, massa' to everyone? It's nuts when your presence alone can just scare people, and that made me a prime candidate to take the heat in a dysfunctional family.
Wow. There's so much to say about this. Number one: The show was created by an African American woman and the cast is about a third black. None of them seem to be in any imminent danger of being fired, perhaps because they don't go around spewing offensive epithets. Number two: Saying the only way to get by in show business is to be a Stepin Fetchit just isn't true. Denzel Washington, Sidney Poitier, and Will Smith just to name three, are dignified black actors as well-liked by white people as by black. Number three: Isaiah, THEY ARE AFRAID OF YOU BECAUSE YOU CHOKED PATRICK DEMPSEY AND GO AROUND CALLING PEOPLE FAGGOTS.
I agree with him that it's shitty the way the network strung him along so long before firing him. They should have done it immediately or not at all. But this guy clearly has a mouth like a shovel. He just keeps going deeper.
