News > TW RECAP: LOST 4-4-07

April 5, 2007

Is Lost back again? What does that even mean anymore? Two weeks ago, everyone was screaming "Lost is back!!!" at their collective TV screens. Then there was a lighthearted whodunnit solving who killed two characters no one cared about, which was annoying at first...but when it was revealed that Paulo and that idiot hot chick weren't actually dead when they were buried, people again were screaming "Lost is baaaack!!"

Well last night's episode had a few of those moments but on the whole it was a paint by the numbers "psychology of a character" episode. Oh boo.

Spoilers begin .....NOW.......

PLOT
Locke tells Kate he's going with "The Others" (that name is getting realllly old now) and when she starts to protest, she's gassed out. She wakes up in the jungle the next day, handcuffed to Julia. And yes, they proceed to have a cat fight...over Jack.

The episode itself is like an extended male fantasy/cat fight between Kate and Julia peppered with an inane flashback into Kate's life that tells us nothing other than Kate knew the chick Sawyer fucked over in one of his cons. I'm not even gonna look up her name, which I forgot, because that's the least interesting connection I have yet been presented with on Lost.

Most of the cat fights I mentioned earlier revolve around who Jack likes more. Kate and Julia have a pissing contest about who's known him longer (technically, Kate has known him longer but Julia's been cyber stalking him for longer). And the big "reveal" is that Jack saw Kate screwing Sawyer in the cages, which broke his heart, says Julia.

In the end, Julia and Kate go back to the "Others" village to find Jack still passed out and Sayiid somewhere...else. They didn't really show or explain what/where he was exactly, but whatever. I think he was tied up. Jack has a good moment with Kate after she tells him the "Others" have disappeared. "Even Julia?" Burrrrrn.

The four head back to camp and it looks like Sayiid is suspicious both of Julia and, to a lesser degree, Jack. Which is a great capper to a blah episode and left me, falsely, feeling like "Lost is Back!!!!!!!!"

Oh, there was a B story where Sawyer thought he was going to get exiled off the island unless he won the favor of everyone, so he gave a blanket to Claire, talked to her baby (which was really friggin creepy) and shot a boar with Desmond, which he proceeded to feed the whole camp with. This plot line was so minor half the time I thought it was the show cutting to ads. Lost aint back.

HIGHLIGHTS
Julia pretends she's never seen or heard a black smoke taxi monster before, which is a lie. She then proceeds to capture one in some polarity field or something, which blows Kate's mind. Guys, we thought we were about to find out what the black smoke was during season 1. You know, back when we thought we'd know how that polar bear got there (though, the episode two weeks ago sort of showed us that the island brings you whatever you want...and could the diamonds have been willed to Paulo as well?)

And as with many of the episodes, the teaser for next week's episode is more badass than the entire one that we just saw. Sayiid wants to know everything about the "Others" from Julia...and he's gonna torture her ass if she doesn't talk. Lost is back!!!

Or is it?
