News > The Simpsons Get a Universal Studios Ride

April 24, 2007

Few details are known at this point in time, but reports that Fox and NBC-Universal are teaming up to bring a Simpsons ride to both Universal Studios theme parks.

The ride will open Spring 2008, and is said to utilize "motion simulator technology," which may mean it's one of those rides where you sit in a theater and the seats move back and forth as the action happens on a screen (a la Star Tours, and the now-defunct Back to the Future ride, which the Simpsons ride is replacing). No Simpsons ride will ever be as awesome as the Back to the Future ride, but you can't fault them for trying. Says Matt Groening: "The ride is designed to duplicate the Simpsons home-viewing experience, only at high speed and with lots of screaming."

Not only that, but the inclusion of the ride will also result in more costumed characters: you can look forward to seeing mascot versions of Homer and Bart sometime soon, whether you like it or not.
