It's great, if not surprising, that after twenty years apart, the genius' behind 'Everything You Do Is Magic' can come out of retirement and continue to sell out stadium-sized venues. I mean, personally, I find The Police's music, with all the Eightie's moogy electronic crap, to be a little dated. Add to the pile Sting's slow evolution into a New Age tantric sex doctor (completely reflected in his music) and it just seems as if the crowds of emo-loving teenagers these days wouldn't give a hair on their collective bungholes about a reunion tour.
As always though, I'm wrong, and the tour is a huge success and everyone can continue spitting on my opinion and me whenever they care to. And as with all successful, aging rockers, MTV has decided to rake in some cash by giving the group an Unplugged performance. The show, which I know will just be clogged with scented candles and dried flowers, will film on July 13th in an undisclosed location in Miami.
No matter who performs at these Unplugged shows, they're almost always pretty amazing. Bands are encouraged to switch up their set lists and spice them up with guests and huge deviations from the original songs. So even with my brewing dislike of the once again popular Police, I'll probably watch this on the tellie.
