News > Surprise of the year: American Idol Tops Nielsen Ratings

May 15, 2007

Say what you will about the American Idol Dynasty, there's no denying that the show is a freaking huge success. Simon Cowell and Co. are some of the most liked, hated, maligned, bashed, supported, and loved personalities on the face of the earth, and their stable of church choir rejects have rallied quite a significant level of support over the past few years. places Idol at the top of the heap, garnering 28.2 million Prime Time viewers every Wednesday, while the Tuesday iteration of the show clocks in at cool 25.47 million viewers. Together the two Idol shows are pulling in 53.67 million hits a week, though you can be sure that there's a significant amount of overlap between the two nights. Third after the top two idol slots is House, with a downright depressing 21.36 million hits. Long live Idol...or something along those lines.
