News > Spielberg to produce WWII series for HBO

April 25, 2007

Just when things looked pretty grim for HBO's lineup, Steven Spielberg (along with his "Band of Brothers" co-exec producers Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman) will be bringing the network a brand new World War 2 mini-series entitled "The Pacific." This time around, the show will be told from the Asian perspective (like how "Letters from Iwo Jima" served as the counter point to "Flags of our Fathers").

The series is set to start filming in Australia as soon as this summer and is slated for the network in 2009. HBO better get some quality programming on board before then, because with "The Sopranos," "Deadwood," and "Rome" gone and the possibility of "The Wire," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and "Entourage" all being in their final seasons next year...the original programming division on HBO is effed. Plus the previews for all their new shows look abysmal...and don't get me started on "Big Love."
