Jill Soloway, former writer-producer of Six Feet Under, is developing a new hour-long comedy show with big shot Lost man J.J. Abrams. Simultaneously, she has signed on with Shonda Rhimes as a consulting producer for the latter woman's hit show Grey's Anatomy. Should the Abrams project fail to go to pilot, Soloway will become a full-time member of the Grey's creative team for the show's fourth season.

I'd be very interested to see if Soloway and Abrams can pull off the rare sixty minutes-long comedy show. I'm trying to think of any comedy shows that have hour-long formats, but aside from sketch shows like SNL or MadTV it's fairly unusual to go for more than a half hour. The prevailing wisdom being that brevity is the key to comedy. Maybe this show could shake that idea up (or fall on its face and reinforce the current rule of thumb).
