Paul Shaffer, best known as David Letterman's sidekick and band leader on CBS's Late Show, is working on memoirs about his first thirty years of show biz. "These anecdotes have been accumulating in my mind for the past three-plus decades; it's been a nutty ride, and I felt it imperative to finally commit my reflections to the page ... at least Volume One," said Shaffer in a statement issued by Flying Dolphin Press. The autobiography will be co-written by David Ritz who has worked on the memoirs of other famous musicians such as Marvin Gaye and Ray Charles, says .

Shaffer's certainly got plenty to write about. The first couple years of Saturday Night Live, the Blues Brothers, the hundreds of musicians that he's worked with, and of course Letterman.

Here's something I didn't know about Paul Shaffer until I read that Yahoo article, he co-wrote "It's Raining Men." Just one of hundreds of fun facts to look forward to.
