Reality TV > Padma Lakshmi and Salman Rushdie Divorce

July 3, 2007

The most disproportionate marriage since Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller is over. Or maybe most proportionate if one considers Miller and Rushdie's talent equivalent to Monroe and Lakshmi's beauty. In any event, the still-living couple is through after three years of marriage. Padma Lakshmi is best known as the host of Bravo's Top Chef, but is also a model, actress, and cookbook author. Salman Rushdie is best known as a novelist of such books as Midnight's Children and The Satanic Verses.

Only two weeks ago, Rushdie was knighted. Win some lose some. TVGuide suggests that the divorce is at Lakshmi's behest, so maybe Rushdie became insufferable in the wake of his knighthood. Always making her call him "Sir Salman," hiring wenches to dress him, wearing chain-mail to bed. That sort of thing.
