The creator of The Bernie Mac Show is returning to Fox 3 1/2 years after the network dismissed him from the show.

Fox has ordered a script from Larry Wilmore for an untitled show that chronicles the political and social workings of a government agency.

"It's such a relevant and timely show," said Robin Schwartz, president of Fox-based producer Regency TV, who compared the tone of the project to All In the Family.

Regency produced Bernie Mac, and also scored a hit with Fox's Malcolm in the Middle, which ended its run last season.

Wilmore, who won a writing Emmy for his work on Bernie Mac, was fired in early 2003 after clashing with Fox executives over the show's creative direction.
