I always thought Peter O'Toole was pretty much done with acting.  The elderly Brit thespian only pops up every five years or so, to reassure everyone that he's still among the living, and to rack up another "let's give O'Toole an award for living so damn long" Oscar nomination.  It seems though his recent nomination has shaken the cobwebs off a little bit and now he's signed on for a role in season two of Showtime's critically acclaimed "The Tudors'.

The series puts a tawdry spin on the life and times of wife-hatin' ruler, King Henry VIII as played by girly-man Jonathan Rhys-Meyer.  O'Toole will take on the role of Pope Paul III, the religious leader who butted heads with Henry VIII about his attempts to divorce Katherine of Aragorn.  This conflict eventually pushed King Henry to break from the Catholic church, a decision that affected a lot of stuff that I'd tell you about, but you're probably tired, and I don't want to bore you.

I don't know much about history, but I'm pretty sure that Pope Paul III didn't resembled a bloated 85-year old woman, so I'm almost positive they're casting O'Toole for his acting chops and not his looks.  O'Toole has signed on for a seven-episode arc.
