MTV has spent much of the last five years trying to mine every aspect of reality television possible, eschewing actual videos and original content in the process. Looks as if the reality well may be running dry though, as the channel has optioned two new original series.  The first being, 'Cheerleader Camp', a, ahem, campy-horror series that focuses on the titular summer camp.  Also in pre-production is 'Darius, a half-hour about, as only The Hollywood Reporter can describe, 'the dark, secret life of an American teenager.'  It's also being referred to as 'multi-media', so expect a lot flashy editing and Panic! At The Disco montages.

Original series from MTV, especially those that don't involve seven people forced to live together, haven't always been of the highest-quality.  Nonetheless, anything has to be better than 'Laguna Beach' and 'Two-a-Days', though nothing on Earth can ever best 'My Super Sweet 16'.  That show is pure gold and I'll fight anyone who says differently.
