News > Moyer and Kerr Sign On for Alan Ball's True Blood

April 9, 2007

The cast for the highly anticipated new show by Six Feet Under mastermind Alan Ball is finally coming together.  English-hunk Stephen Moyer (Quills) has been added as the male lead opposite Anna Paquin as well as soap-actress Brook Kerr.  Kerr will play a smart, beautiful woman who works at the same coffee-shop as Paquin's Sookie Stackhouse.

The series is based on Charlaine Harris' "Southern Vampire" series.  The story revolves around a world where vampires begin to appear in a small Louisiana town.  Moyer will play Bull Comton, a vampire who becomes romantically involved with Sookie, a waitress at a local diner who concidentally can read minds.

From everything I've heard about these books, they're sort of pulpish, over-sexed bathroom reading material.  Ball has a penchant for crafting beautiful, thematic stories from fairly maudlin melodrama, so I'm hoping that this could be something very special.  On the other hand I thought the last four seasons of Six Feet Under were trite, unbearable crap, so here's hoping this is more American Beauty-quality then anything else.
