News > Major Networks: Where Are Our Viewers?

Viewership took a steep drop this spring from last year's levels leaving the major network to pose the big question.  There are numerous theories ranging from "better things to do" to "everyone has TiVo," but we should all be very clear on what the real reason is:  every time a network finds success, everyone jumps in the pool to try to copy that formula, neglecting to realize that what made the copied show so successful in the first place was that it was different, non-formulaic and interesting.   Until the networks realize that the only consistently successful formula is progress, expect a lot of news items about back-office hand-wringing at the networks.
