is reporting that Cleveland Cavalier LeBron James will host the season premiere of Saturday Night Live this September. Producer Steve Higgins says, "It's nice to get people who aren't in show business to host. Sports stars tend to be less frightened because they are used to performing in a live setting." I guess that's somewhat true but I always hate it when they get an athlete or Donald Trump or just about any other non-performer. Because the truth is that they're just not as good. There are certainly some exceptions. John McCain was a pretty good host, Peyton Manning did well. But the people who do the best on SNL are the ones with natural comedic talent and a film or TV background. Alec Baldwin, Christopher Walken, etc. The athlete shows are nice novelties but the sketches tend to not be very funny, which to me is always more important.

Variety also mentions that all 11 cast members are expected to return next season, though Lorne Michaels is still in talks with Maya Rudolph (it'd be a shame to lose her).
