"Two and a Half Men" creators Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn are set to team up with Allison Janney for a half-hour comedy at CBS.
Negotiations have just begun, but Lorre and Aronsohn would create, write and exec produce the half-hour; Janney, in her first TV series role since "The West Wing," would star. Warner Bros. Television, which has deals with Lorre and Aronsohn, is set to produce.
Untitled project would have Janney playing a successful woman who's re-examining the relationships in her life. Eye is expected to make a premium script commitment to the project.
Earlier this year, Janney struck a talent holding deal with CBS to star in and produce a half-hour for the network (Daily Variety, Aug. 29). Under the terms of that pact, Tagline Television ("Psych") is attached as a producer on whatever project she ends up in at the network.
Lorre is working overtime for the Eye these days. In addition to showrunning "Two and a Half Men" with Aronsohn, he's also developing "The Big Bang Theory" with Bill Prady for the net. Jimmy Burrows will direct that pilot, which is set to lense in February.
Janney is set to appear in Adam Shankman's upcoming feature film version of "Hairspray." Her other comedy credits include "Over the Hedge," "Strangers With Candy" and "10 Things I Hate About You."
