I looked forward to getting sick when I was a kid. The fevers, headaches, and, umm, abdominal problems were unpleasant to be sure. They were always outweighed, however, by the joy that came around every morning at 10 O'clock. I would sit transfixed in front of the TV and, for a solid hour, get lost in Bob Barker's bizarre world. The Price is Right is an anomalous item in the fast paced world of targeted demographics and shows that are catered to specific interest groups. The timeless game show has a nearly universal appeal. It is for that reason (as well as countless others) that Bob Barker's departure from the show (and the shows subsequent termination) is terrible loss for the television viewing public. Barker hosted his last show on Wednesday, giving away nearly $60,000 in prizes in his final "Showcase Showdown." The world will likely never see such a feat again. Sick days will have a fraction of their former appeal. Goodbye, Bob Barker. You will be sorely missed.
