Reality TV > Drew Carey to Replace Bob Barker?

Drew Carey's in the gameshow biz for a week and all of a sudden they want him to be the new king. is reporting that Power of 10 host Carey is being considered as a major contender for the now vacant host position on The Price is Right. Other people being considered include George Hamilton and Rosie O'Donnell. Among the three Drew Carey is probably the best choice. No matter what, it'll be an uphill battle trying to win the love of America as Bob Barker so did, but it will probably be easiest for Carey. Rosie is too controversial and caustic. George Hamilton is only 16 years younger than Barker (and not everyone lives to 84, like Bob), so CBS might want to consider a more long term investment.

Variety points out that Carey has "mainstream, blue-collar appeal" as well as improv comedy experience, which I guess is all true and would be handy. Though the nice thing about Bob Barker is that he was just a genuine dude. He wasn't trying to make anyone laugh, he just presented himself as a cool guy who was able to hold a fat lady's hand when she was waiting for the big wheel to stop spinning. That's all you need. Does Drew Carey have that sort of quality to him? I don't know.
