Call me a stingy asshole, but the news that, according to TVGuide, Drew Carey has stepped in to host The Price is Right hit me hard. As far as I'm concerned, The Price is Right is, and always has been, a Bob Barker production. Barker is/was The Price is Right. I could tolerate the rumors that Rosie O'Donnell was being considered as a replacement, but only because it was clear that they were far too ridiculous to ever come true. Now that someone has actually been announced as Barker's official successor, I can't help but feel that something is very, very wrong. Don't get twisted, I like Drew Carey as much as the next guy, but he's a comedian (and an arguably mediocre comedian at that). The job of TPIR host requires a certain level of integrity and straight laced sincerity that, quite frankly, is sorely lacking in Mr. Carey's character. Whatever. Just because I have vowed to boycott the show for the remainder of its soon to be embarrassing existence doesn't mean that people won't watch the show, but it does mean that they should think twice before endorsing Mr. Carey's tenure.
