Word of advice: Don't quit your day job.

That cliched sentiment may be haunting Saturday Night Live's Rachel Dratch. The funnylady announced in July she was leaving the NBC late-night sketch show after seven years to star in fellow ex-SNL-er Tina Fey's new show 30 Rock.

Dratch was set to play Jenna DeCarlos, an actress on the SNL style show-within-a-show The Girlie Show. Now, Variety says that role has been scrapped and Dratch will play an assortment of different characters throughout the season.

SNL and 30 Rock executive producer Lorne Michaels said the change was due to a shift in the focus of the show. Originally, the series revolved around the goings-on at The Girlie Show. As the writing has progressed, the story has become more focused on the interplay between the characters outside the show.

"Both Tina and I obviously adore Rachel, and we wanted to find a way in which we could go to her strength," Michaels told the magazine. "The way it's been rewritten, it's a much funnier part."

Dratch will now play a cat wrangler, among other recurring and nonrecurring characters.
