News > Daytime Emmys bumped to June

December 1, 2006

Via TV.com:

CBS sends ratings dog to middle of summer so as not to hurt May sweeps.

CBS announced today it is moving the The 34th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, which honors the best of daytime television, from April, where it has aired for 15 years, to June 15. Last year's broadcast on ABC earned a record-low number of viewers.

Additionally, the National Academy of TV Arts & Sciences has decided not to hold two separate Creative Arts awards ceremonies, one on each coast. In 2007, both the Creative Arts and Daytime Awards presentations will take place in Los Angeles at the Hollywood and Highland complex.

CBS is hoping to avoid losing viewers during May sweeps, a key time when the networks set ad rates based on ratings. Today it was announced that NBC tied CBS for second place in the just-ended November sweeps, and that CBS saw a 14 percent viewership decline.
