News > CBS Can't Save Jericho: Stop Sending Nuts

The Wall Street Journal recently posted an interview with Leslie Moonves, the CEO of CBS. In it, Moonves shows himself to be -- how does one put this tactfully -- a dinosaur. I've never seen a single episode of Jericho, but it's pretty obvious that Moonves doesn't realize that change is coming in the TV world: he judges Jericho's success by Nielsen ratings and Nielsen ratings alone, completely failing to consider DVR or streaming online episodes.
What does Moonves' ancient attitude mean? Well, essentially, it means that Jericho is never coming back, not even in online-only episodes on a smaller budget. Moonves says that continuing Jericho in any form would result in CBS "losing a considerable amount of money." To be frank, he's ignoring a hell of a lot of factors here: most TV watchers didn't give two shits about Jericho until the show's fans became fanatically devoted to getting it back on the air. Now that the show is in the spotlight, I have to admit that I'm curious as to what all the fuss is about: when a group of fans love a show enough to send thousands of pounds of nuts to a CBS executive, then you may have something special on your hands.
