The latest in the unfolding Chris Benoit story is that it has been confirmed that the late wrestler first asphyxiated his wife and seven year-old son before hanging himself on Sunday. Any sort of motive seems unclear, though evidence suggests the murders were acts of deliberation and not of rage.

WWE spokesman Vince McMahon issued a statement, according to , said he was disturbed that the media rushed to the assumption that steroid use was the catalyst for the murder-suicide. Really? That's the disturbing part? WWE stated that Benoit tested negative for steroids in April and gave a detailed description of why the murders were inconsistent with "roid rage."

A number of tributes were paid to Benoit by WWE on Monday before it was clear that he had murdered his family. Once those details were revealed, WWE pulled all tributes from their television programming and websites.
