Based on a premise written by Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (aka the guys currently doing the new Star Trek
film as well) Fringe will have a two-hour premiere pilot reportedly given $10 million.

The three will serve as executive producers and are still looking for a director.

The show according to Abrams will focus on a scientist, his son and an FBI agent who brings the trio together. Episodes will be self-contained and explain a broader plot as the series progresses. It is refered to as a mix of X-Files, Altered States and even a dash of The Twilight Zone. While details are minimal, we do learn in the pilot that the brilliant scientist is in a mental hospital and needs to be released to help with the assortment of weird science going on.

Currently there is no release date given, but we could assume a late 2008/2009 on Fox.
