News > Aaron Sorkin to Broadway!

If I was Aaron Sorkin, and I'd just been the showrunner and primary writer for the tangled debacle that was 'Studio 60', I'd be looking for some place to hide too.  Thus Sorkin's choice to revisit his production 'The Farnsworth Invention' (a one time film script, that ended up as a play) to Broadway, seems pretty natural.  The soon-to-be Broadway play follows a crucial moment in the life of Philo T. Farnsworth, the inventor of the television, and his battle with mogul David Sarnoff, about just what the television can do.  Farnsworth wants twenty-four hours a day of E! News and softcore pornography, Sarnoff wants his original feature 'Sarnoff Gone Wild: Mardi Gras' played on repeat.  Heated words ensue.

Sorkin's foray into the limp wrists and sparkly costumes of Broadway isn't a solo adventure, as Steven Spielberg is looking to produce the play, with world famous director Des McAnuff directing.   Sorkin has also expressed interest in a Flaming Lips musical based on the album 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots'.  Though I love the idea of a Flaming Lips musical, I think Sorkin is better fit for the one about television.  Though, after 'Studio 60' it seems like Sorkin might be fit for another stint in rehab.
