News > A.C. Slater Will Be One of "Eight"
April 9, 2007
Mario Lopez (formerly famous for portraying homo-erotic Zak lover Slater on "Saved By The Bell" and then re-famous for his fancy moves on "Dancing With The Stars") has just signed on to CW's new pilot "Eight Days a Week", alongside midgety hot-chick Christina Milian, Johnny Lewis, and Robert Ri'chard. The show swirls around a bunch of powerful "movers and shakers" assistants, who quite predictably do hilarious things in their quests to rise to power and shag anything in a business suit.
Lopez will be, as Variety hilariously describes, "an impeccably dressed wunderkind with a cell phone attached to his ear." The rest of the cast plays a collection of rock-stars, attractive artists, and a "Blackberry wielding, go-getter." This show is going to be so bad.
It really sort of showcases the mentality of Hollywood these days in terms of the way they create stars and franchises. Instead of searching about for actors that might actually be fresh and new, Hollywood greenlights stupid crap like "Dancing With The Stars" bringing these old b-list actors to the forefront - almost reauditioning them for celebrity. If one of them sticks, the networks then leap on the "newfound" star and throw him/her in to a pilot as quickly as possible. Sadly, these stars are usually so power hungry they're just as eager to star in what ever craptastic shit-poodle the networks will offer them, and they invariably pick something like "Eight Days a Weeks" only to see it cancelled after four episodes. Thus, they're career makes one full cycle in less then a season of television, and they're right back to the bottom of the used-condom heap. It's sort of sad, and entirely disgusting to watch happen, but when you're looking to be famous you'll take a second fifteen minutes of fame. Lopez has made at least a little bit of name for himself on shows like "Nip/Tuck" and that gay swimmer min-series, but a jump from "Dancing With The Stars" to the CW is a pretty painful fall.
No word on when the show will air yet, but if you're looking for a Lopez fix, he's currently filming the ABC Family original piece "Holidays in Handcuffs". Snicker, stupid Slater.
