The season premier of The Sopranos performed slightly worse than expected in the ratings in drawing about 1.84 million fewer viewers than last year's season premier.  Maybe they should have promised a major death.  Still, it ranks as the top cable performer of the year thus far.  Also good news for HBO:  3.77 million viewers didn't change the channel when the episode ended, helping the season premier of Entourage to its best numbers to date.
