News > "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" Now a Free Agent

May 18, 2007

Regency TV needs some better representation. is maintaining that their television adaptation of the somewhat-successful movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith has been released from its contract with ABC. As part of the severance package, the show's management was granted the right to take the show with them, allowing for the option to shop it elsewhere. This is somewhat unorthodox, as when shows are dropped, they are generally put to bed, never to be heard from again. This is usually for the benefit of the viewer, though there have been a few notable examples of great pilots simply slipping through the network cracks. Whatever the case, Smith is currently being shopped to other networks. The show is hoping to retain its original cast, producers, director and mascot. The mascot, at least as of this writing, was a giant thumbs down.
