News > "Law & Order: SVU" producer charged with racism and sexism

April 26, 2007

Via TV Guide:

Ted Kotcheff, the executive producer of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," has been accused of making racist and sexist comments for three years by the International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees, based on complaints filed by his employees. Kotcheff allegedly referred to crew members of Asian-American descent "Chinamen," used derogatory words towards women and probably most egregiously nicknamed a black crew member "Stepin Fetchit" and told him to '"get your Caribbean ass out of here."'

I guess it's ironic that a show called "Law & Order" has such an unruly executive producer. At least he wasn't raping people, though. Because, since it's "SVU," that'd be just way too damned ironic and we'd have to call it a day.
