Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence refused a pre-strike request by the studio to write a back-up finale for his popular comedy currently in its last season. According to Lawrence, the finale the studio wanted featured an ending in which "two people kiss," but he will "use all my leverage to end this show properly, even if it means I have to do all the voices myself and call people up to read it over the phone."

If the show doesn't end this season on NBC, the finale may find itself on ABC, which had previously expressed interest in taking the show if NBC failed to renew. According to , seven of the eighteen episodes for this season have not been written yet, and all but one of the first eleven episodes have been shot, meaning that Scrubs will find itself in reruns as early as January.
