News > High School Musical 2 Scores 17.2 Million Viewers

It's completely beyond me how the first High School Musical, a made-for-TV movie on the Disney Channel, became the phenomenon that it has, but the sequel earned more than double the viewers. reports that High School Musical 2 was "enjoyed" by 17.2 million viewers (the original had 7.7 million), making it the "most-watched basic-cable telecast on record." It's also the largest audience of any program in three months.

Variety has a long, in-depth analysis of the whole High School Musical saga but I have no intention of spending that much of my morning writing about it. So go ahead over there if you actually want more coverage.
