News > Heroes: Origins in limbo: not canceled, but production stopped

November 1, 2007

NBC hasn't officially given comment, but all production has ceased on the April spin-off series, Heroes: Origins. The show was originally supposed be a six-episode mini-series that aired after the completion of Heroes' second season.

Due to the threat of a writers' strike, which many have feared would hurt upcoming productions, some see the scrapping of Origins as proof that the strikes are unavoidable and NBC is bet-hedging future series that need set writers involved. Of course, as says, the other side could be Heroes current lagging ratings and NBC series creative director Ben Silverman deciding to cut back rather than suffer a Lost-esque backlash.

THR claims that the series was still in the early stages and no scripts were likely completed--however, this is after NBC has hyped such directors/writers being involved like Kevin Smith and Eli Roth.

While the show could still exist, it is very apparent that it will not be on the 2008 schedule.
