News > Football Wives Future Uncertain

June 29, 2007

I say "uncertain" partially because it is, and partially because this TVGuide article reporting on it is so convoluted with football metaphors that it's hard to tell what's going on.

Here's the text of the article reprinted:

ABC Studios has extended its options on the actors associated with Football Wives, the BBC-adapted sudser pilot that was not picked up at the May upfronts, suggesting the network may tackle the project after all. One of the Alphabet's highest-profile pilots this development season, Football Wives stars Gabrielle Union, Lucy Lawless, Kiele Sanchez (sigh, Nikki...), Ving Rhames and James Van Der Beek. Should ABC ultimately "pass," sources tell the Hollywood Reporter that several other networks, including NBC and Fox, have expressed an interest in it.

So I gather that the show was not picked up but the actors were, suggesting that the show may happen anyway? Well that was simple enough.

I can write like TVGuide too:

ABC's attempt at a two Nielsen-point conversion with Football Wives may be sacked by the fans if NBC's Heroes is in a Dime formation and is broadcast at the same time. At that point, only a rescheduling QB sneak to 10PM will have any hope of getting by Claire the cheerleader's tight end.*

Actually maybe I should write that way all the time. That was pretty concise.

*This second story has no basis in fact.
