News > Doctor Who takes 2009 off

It's a bad week to be The Doctor. After being shot down by Ziggy Stardust yesterday, the BBC announced that Doctor Who will take 2009 off and come back with season five in 2010.

David Tennant, who currently stars as the eleventh Doctor, will be seen in three Doctor Who specials in 2009. There are heavy rumors that he wants to be taken off the show, which many Who purists claim is dumbed-down and presented in a more cartoony, villain-of-the-week style.

Currently, Season 3 is on air in America via the SciFi Channel. Spin-off series Torchwood begins this Saturday on BBC America.
