News > Army Wives Poorly Written, but Entertaining

I mean, according to the real-life Army wives who watched it. I didn't watch the show, or anything like that. I have a penis.

Still, the NY Times reports that while Lifetime's fictional drama, Army Wives, may have some interesting plots and positive female characters, it's also hardly realistic.

When a character picks up the phone and refers to herself as "Major Sherwood's wife," the real-life Army wives immediately commented, "“Nobody answers the telephone that way," citing the fact that speaking about your husband's rank is like bragging about his income. Similarly, the wives felt that many of the show's important scenes (a scene where women gather at one home to talk about life, another where the soldiers finaly come home) were poorly written.

"The problems were the technical aspects," the wives said. "Hollywood writers writing about the military is like men writing about childbirth."

Still, the women admitted that they enjoyed the series overall, and are still watching it -- which is little surprise, considering Army Wives is the highest-rated series in the entire history of the Lifetime channel. Still, I won't watch it.

Because I have a penis.
