News > 24 to Feature Female President?

24 is sort of known for its false leads (the infamous "car scene" spoiler that never happened at the end of season 6), but the latest from is that the show is considering a female president for next season. There are not many details on the subject and it's not a finalized decision. Though it's safe to say that it probably isn't a regular character on the show that will be getting the promotion. Karen Hayes had to resign in shame (sort of), Martha Logan is in a mental hospital (though if they made her president, that would be a hell of a statement), and Chloe is Chloe. The other thing this tells us is that Powers Boothe's character Vice President Noah Daniels will not be reelected. Just when he was getting to be a good guy...
HR points out that this could mirror Hillary Clinton's potential nomination. I guess so. You have to wonder what Joel Surnow (a staunch Republican and co-creator of 24) will do with the character. Will he make her a weak or a strong character and would that in any way affect the subconscious opinions of the considerable audience towards a female commander in chief? Eh, maybe we're giving the TV show too much credit. By that reasoning Barack Obama would be a shoe-in considering how great David Palmer was at being the first black president. Time will tell.
