Reality TV > Former CBS Exec Wants to Keep Couric

The LA Times reports that former CBS news president Andrew Heyward wants the fledgling channel to keep Katie Couric for their evening news, despite the fact that her presence has given the CBS Evening News some of its lowest ratings in history.

Heyward feels that in replacing Bob Schieffer and changing the tone and appearance of the show, CBS "pushed the envelope a bit too far," but that it's worth sticking with Couric because she brings something new to the evening news.

Whatever your opinions toward Couric, she "pushed the envelope too far?" On CBS? Considering the channel's average viewer is either an Alzheimer's patient, or dead, it doesn't really take much to push the envelope on CBS. The generation that reeled in horror at Elvis's mobile hips comprise the bread and butter of CBS's viewership: changing a few lights and a news show host was either so shocking many of the viewers had heart attacks, or so subtle that many senior citizens didn't notice the change, and simply wondered why Bob Schieffer looked so "faggy" tonight.
