ABC has greenlit an unscripted hourlong series from the producers of "Last Comic Standing."
Peter Engel and Barry Katz are set to executive produce "The Imposter," a search for the best celebrity impersonator in the country, through their companies, Peter Engel Productions and New Wave Entertainment. ABC has ordered eight episodes with an eye on airing "Imposter" in summer 2007.
Specific plans for "Imposter" are still being set, but the production will scour the country for individuals who can do a great impersonation of a famous person, be it a musician, actor or athlete. The best of the best will be rounded up for an impersonation contest that will entail more than just looking like a particular celebrity.
"Imposter" also will be casting a host and panel of judges. The prize is still being determined.
