Reality TV > A First Look at CBS's New Pirate Show

April 18, 2007

In what will either be the single best or single worst reality TV show of all time, Mark Burnett has developed Pirate Master for CBS. The show is exactly what it sounds like: 16 people from around the globe follow clues and complete tasks for the chance to find a buried treasure of $1 million in gold coins.

According to Burnett, the contestants were chosen by virtue of the fact that "had they been born 250 years ago, they would have liked to be pirates." That sounds more than a little fishy, because there is not a single person on the planet who would not have liked to be a pirate 250 years ago.

Burnett made up a story about some super-pirate named Captain Steel (worst pirate name ever) who hid his 14-compartment treasure chest and divided maps to its location all around the world. The Pirate Master cast (including a "tough" Nigerian and an American smoke jumper) will have to spend more than a month on a 179 square foot pirate ship as they search for the treasure.

Will it suck? Will it rock? There's only one way to find out.
