On the Lot, the reality show produced by Steven Spielberg and Survivor creator Mark Burnett in which young filmmakers vie for a "million dollar deal with Dreamworks," has struggled in the ratings, attracting a mere three million viewers last week. It finished in fifth place among the networks in its regular timeslot, trailing behind even CBS reruns.

The flaws of On the Lot are numerous (heavy reliance on manufactured drama between contestants, the American Idol style judging and elimination, etc.) but it can be summed up pretty much in nine words: Brett Ratner is a judge. A judge of films.
